How AI recipe generation works in Chef AI

Chef AI is an AI recipe generator for people who want to cook with what they already have. Instead of browsing a fixed catalog, you describe your kitchen and the app writes new recipes around it. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you enter your ingredients to the moment dinner is on the table.

1. List your ingredients

Type in what you already have — three or more ingredients is enough. Chef AI works with everyday pantry staples: rice, pasta, eggs, beans, canned tomatoes, fresh vegetables, herbs and spices.

2. Set dietary restrictions

Mark the vegan or gluten-free option and every generated recipe is written to respect it, with ingredients checked against your restriction before the recipe is shown.

3. Add nutrition targets

Optionally set a calorie ceiling, a minimum protein target or a carbohydrate limit per serving. Each recipe arrives with calories, protein, carbs, fat and fiber so you can see how it fits your day.

4. Get three recipes

Chef AI drafts three distinct recipes in a single pass, deliberately varying cuisine, cooking method and flavor profile so you never get three variations of the same stir-fry.

5. Save and organize

Keep the recipes you like in your personal collection, search them by name or tag later, and revisit them from your saved recipes page at any time.

6. Cook and shop

Open a recipe for the full ingredient amounts, numbered instructions, prep and cook times, and a categorized grocery list you can print or share before you head to the store.

Why recipes come out usable

Generic recipe chatbots produce lists of ingredients without amounts, times or nutrition. Chef AI asks the model for structured recipes instead: a name, a short description, an ingredient list with amounts, numbered instructions, servings, prep and cook times, nutrition per serving, tags and an image prompt. That structure is what lets the app scale ingredient amounts, build a grocery list, and show nutrition targets alongside each recipe.

When a recipe cannot quite meet a nutrition target — say a protein minimum on a plant-based meal — Chef AI still shows the recipe and adds a short note explaining which target it missed and how to close the gap, for example by adding lentils, tofu or Greek yogurt. You get ideas you can actually cook rather than a rejection.

Plans and limits

The Free plan includes 10 recipe generations per month and up to 3 saved recipes. Pro adds 100 generations per month, up to 25 saved recipes and priority generation speed. Usage is counted per calendar month and is visible on your account page at any time.
